For example we trained in boot camp with M16A2 rifles with iron sights and wore old woodland print flak jackets from the 90s, old school packs etc, in infantry school we used m16a4s and M4s with scopes and a bunch of gear from the early 2000s, and then the fleet really varied from unit to unit. I was in the Marines for a few years and in my experiences lots of units had lots of different equipment because new shit gets issued out an as needed basis (usually but also strangely not always the case) especially during wartime (I was in from 09-15 so I saw this firsthand).
